Susan has extensive executive-level leadership experience at top-tier public and private universities directing information and educational technology organizations, operations and services. Her portfolio includes managing IT resources at the system, university, college and department level, with focus on educational technologies, user experience, online learning, learning environments, web and media services and research computing. She is deeply committed to expanding the understanding of and interest in IT leadership for future IT professionals and works to ensure that the profession continues to identify, cultivate, and mentor the next generation of technology leaders.
With deep academic roots, Susan has made many contributions to the creation of knowledge and collaborative scholarly work in both the theory and practice of information and educational technology. She has authored more than 40 refereed and invited publications and delivered close to 150 refereed and invited presentations, seminars and workshops on topics running the gamut from leadership and mentoring, creativity and innovation, visual and multimedia literacy, to the role of educational technology in transforming higher education to be multi-modal, interactive and learner-centered.
Susan has extensive board experience, ranging from non-profit advisory to governing boards with fiduciary responsibilities. She has served in executive capacities on the EDUCAUSE Board of Directors and the New Media Consortium Board of Directors. She currently sits on Advisory Boards for Document America, The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Digital Learning ROI and the Colorado State University Global Campus. Susan holds a Master of Fine Arts Degree in Graphic Design from Michigan State University. She lives in Los Angeles with her husband and their mini-Aussie, Darwin.
